All Pikes Peak Reads 2005

About All Pikes Peak Reads (APPR)

All Pikes Peak Reads (APPR) is a community-wide literary program designed to get everyone in El Paso County to read and discuss the same book each year. The project offers an opportunity for families to read together, promotes literacy for all ages, and generates discussion across social, cultural, and generational lines.

APPR 2005, presented by The Gazette, features Tales From the Arabian Nights, a collection of fantastic stories including Aladdin, Sinbad the Sailor, and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. The Arabian Nights has its roots in oral storytelling, and as such, there is no definitive text, but instead several variant manuscripts. The Library District has selected The Arabian Nights Entertainments, edited by Andrew Lang, as a version that is both suitable for all ages and keeps the original essence or the tales intact. The project will incorporate themes from the tales in a variety of activities for children, teens, adults, and families scheduled at sites throughout the community.

APPR 2005 is presented by The Gazette and the Pikes Peak Library District, in partnership with:  The Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, PPCC, PPLD Foundation, Friends of PPLD, UCCS THEATREWORKS, The Colorado College, and Manitou Art Theater.
