Organizational histories, select correspondence, ephemera, newsletters, scrapbooks and photographs from the AdAmAn Club, a Colorado Springs-based mountaineering club founded in 1922 by five men who hiked to the summit of Pikes Peak on December 31st to welcome the New Year. Each year one official member is added to the club and every New Year’s Eve club members and invited guests climb to the summit of Pikes Peak and set off fireworks at midnight. Scrapbooks include newspaper clippings and photographs from early AdAmAn hikes.

Ellen T. Brinley Guild, Records

Records, including correspondence, meeting minutes, and scrapbooks documenting the activities of a Colorado Springs based charitable organization. The Ellen T. Brinley Guild was founded in 1932 for the purpose of assisting needy families in El Paso County. Early projects included clothing drives, Christmas stockings, aid to the blind, and supplementing school lunches. Through the years the Guild’s service area expanded to include other counties in Colorado as well as parts of Kansas and New Mexico. After World War II, Guild members assisted with war relief efforts by sending clothing, money and other supplies to needy families in European countries. The Guild also participated in the establishment of a juvenile detention home in Colorado Springs. The Brinley Guild was disbanded by its members in June of 1982

This collection consists primarily of original records of daily precipitation measurements - commonly referred to as ‘Raincheck’ - for the Pikes Peak region from 1967 through 2002. Most recordings were made by volunteer observers for the Pikes Peak Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. There is no data available for 1972 and 1973. Annual summary sheets are included for the years 1976 through 1999. Also included is a 1983 summary of fifty years worth of weather records recorded at the Broadmoor Golf Courses.

The bulk of this collection dates from the 1930s to the 1980s and includes diaries, research files, writings and autobiographical audiotapes. Correspondence in this collection primarily consists of letters between Sprague and his editors, people commenting on his writings, and other Colorado history authors, though there is also some personal correspondence. The materials in this collection largely document Sprague’s professional career as a writer, though his hobbies such as chess, bird watching, and playing jazz piano are readily apparent, as is his obvious affection for his wife, Edna Jane.
